Getting Creative

Got the urge to get creative from listening to a song suggested to me by a good friend; "Music When the Lights Go Out" by The Libertines (the painting has absolutely nothing to do with the song, but it placed the idea in my head!)

Bratislava Bound!

This blog will be a way for me to document my experience in the European country Slovakia! In August of 2014, I will be leaving the comforts of my own home (and country!) to travel abroad, expand my horizons, and dive into a whole new culture as I begin this amazing journey! Not returning until July of 2015, I will be able to completely immerse myself into the Slovak culture, learning the language, opening myself up to their ways of daily life in and out of the home, not to mention indulging in a new (delicious) cornucopia of different foods!

As for now, the requirements that I must meet to gain entry to the country are at a minimum since I am 18 and will fill out the required paperwork for my stay when I am living at home with my host family. This makes my preparation much less stressful and I hope that my Slovak host parents will be able to assist me in understanding the paperwork better than my own parents can (no offence mom and dad!).

I will work on updating my blog as often as possible, I'm thinking of a catchy catch-phrase for every day of the week! So far all I have is Wandering Wednesday, but that will probably consist of pictures that I take when in Slovakia. I'll probably start out with a Fun Fact Friday until I come up with something else!

Thanks for reading!

Advice from the Buddha

Wise men are wise not because they speak and inspire others, but because they inspire others without having to speak.

Joy!

So I was able to talk to my host family from Bratislava, Slovakia! They told me that they are delighted to have me stay with them during my trip. They informed me that they have a daughter of their own about my age, 18, that will be spending a year in Canada and that I will be their joy in her place for a whole year! I already feel so loved and accepted by my host family and cannot wait to meet them!
Much excitement!
